The EGR valve is responsible for reducing the high temperatures in the combustion chamber to, at the same time, reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx). It is, therefore, an element closely related to the ecology and the catalyst.
This is achieved by recirculating the exhaust gases to the intake. That is, reintroduce the combustion smoke of the engine at a minimum percentage (5% -15) in the cylinders. When less air enters with oxygen, the explosion is less and less toxic gases are generated. The EGR valve opens or closes depending on the data collected from the motor and the acceleration through several sensors. These pass to the ECU module, which analyzes them to make the EGR valve open or close.

The EGR valve is placed between the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold; It is the element of union of both elements. All cars have been used since 1996 by European regulations.

An EGR valve that does not work as it should, can cause a series of faults in the engine and other parts, such as in the crankshaft or in the bearings.
